Yo the first section of this is my absolute favorite Haré Krishna melody ever, from Jai Uttal. I got to lead this one at kirtan camp, with Daniel Paul rockin the tablas and Jai laying down funkiness on electric bass. What a high! Afterwards, Jai challenged me to write a B section. Haré Krishna ran through my brain all night, and the next day out popped a B section. I showed it to Jai the next day at camp, and he dug it so I recorded this mp3 for him. Haré Krishna!! ~DT

Just finished uploading a new batch of 24 song sheets onto the songs page. I recorded a short mp3 sample of each melody to help you learn the tune. Added some Jai, some KD, some Snatam, some Kirtan Rabbi, and some of my own songs in there too. Enjoy! ~DT

A student asked to learn a ‘Rootsy’ HarĂ© Krishna. Well it doesn’t get more rootsy than Krishna Das, I thought, and remembered his “Mountain HarĂ© Krishna.” It caught hold of me and I started noodling on the piano, harmonizing the melody variously, as the sun sank into the fog blanketed bay below. ~DT

5/29/09: Lokah

While in Guatemala at Jai’s Kirtan Camp, a friend Liza shared a Lokah Samastah melody. I had never heard it, and added chords to it. Months later, I was asked for a Lokah melody by a harmonium student who is a yoga teacher. I thought back and remembered Liza’s melody, but my cloudy memory altered the melody, and the chords just kept sounding too dark and unappealing. I taught it to her anyways, heck, it was all I had. I proceeded to teach it to another student, who came back the next week complaining that he couldn’t remember the chords. He showed me what he did recall, and indeed it was not what I had showed him… but… “Tyler! You’re a genius!” It was beautiful! The darkness was gone! I wrote it down, and let it evolve into this piece. ~DT

Sanskrit Rave? Kirtronica? Dedicated to the DJ Most High. Thanks to Antares Auto-tune for the neat vocal effects, and to Jamie Lidell for the intro. ~DT

Recorded a new RadhĂ© Shyam song today, because… it’s my birthday! ~DT

Wrote this one a while ago after a difficult break-up, finally got around to recording it. Music has been such a refuge in times of pain and confusion, I don’t know how I would have gotten through the heart-break without releasing all those emotions into song. ~DT

I got bit by the song bug today! Just spent ten hours layering at least that many tracks to create an experiment in funky beats and kirtan lyrics. Can you hear me rapid-fire hitting two pens on the edge of my keyboard in the rock section? ~DT
